With all the hype
about new sensors these days, in a purely technical sense the above
image is interesting. The
lighting is good, and it's shot with a well regarded lens on a
camera that at the time was on the higher end of things. What's
interesting to me is that I don't particularly like the texture of the
image. This has little to do with the sensor, but much to do with how
the lens and camera interact when the lens is at infinity focus,
somewhere I never liked the rendering of the 20mm 2.8 Nikkor. Focused
on a closer object the 20mm was a whole different story. On the flip
side of things the old Nikon 75-150 produces beautiful texture with the
D200, showing that it's more the lens than the sensor. I'm really just
reiterating what you'll hear from tons of photographers; it's all about
the glass, invest wisely.
The image doesn't work as a full
