If there is one thing people
should do once in their life, it's probably not kayaking. The one thing
I would suggest doing is a solo, three (or more) day backpacking trip.
When and where else in your life will you be truly alone? No one to
help, no one to hinder. Unless you are incredibly selfish it's a rare
moment where you can go at your own pace on natures time schedule. At
least three days is key, because it gives you a full day away. A day
with nothing to hurry back to, nothing to take care of but real
immediate needs. Leaving the comfort of day to day life and the
security of a social network behind is not easy, but worth it.
