March is a terrible time of year
to do anything but focus on kayaking in California. Thus the March
Madness Whitewater Photography Competition did not happen in March. Now
it' the Annual Whitewater Photography Competition. I've been planning
to move to the fall, but it's been a busy one. So I've drop the March
Madness part, and as an unfortunate side effect, fall is a tough time
for sponsors because most have their budgets allocated. Regardless I'm
currently working on that angle of the competition. As it's half
photography sports tournament with the bracket system, and half poker
with the ten "photo cards" chosen by the player for the ideal moment,
this year there will be a pot. It's $5 to enter the 2015 Whitewater
Photography Competition. The winner will receive 50% of the pot, second
place 30% and third 20%. On top of that we'll hopefully have some
sponsors come through too.
If you are not aware how it works look at the
2013 and
2014 competitions.
In the first year each contestant submitted a biography, last year it
was reduced to a ten word biography. This your biography is the drink
that best defines you. For example I'd be a Captain and Coke because I
can be spicy and fun yet predictable at the same time.
The format
will remain mostly the same last year: submissions will be sent to
Daniel Brasuell,
who will make them anonymous and forward to me. What's different: you
need to send in all ten images in the submission phase, numbered in
order they will be played, IE 1-10. This will save us a lot of time and
delays. The judging will be
done by myself, Shannamar Dewey, PhD and the popular vote. No
repeat images from the two previous contests.
What happens next? Contestants
need to enter one portrait image of themselves (preferably humorous),
$5 via paypal "as a friend" and what drink best embodies them to
d_mcquoid@hotmail.com. First come first serve! Don't have paypal?
We'll figure something out :)
Progress will (hopefully) update weekly.
Two clarifications: Previously published images are ok, just not images
previously used in the 2013 and 2014 competitions. The $5 via paypal
guarantees your entry. Once spots are filled I'll update the page and
refuse/refund any late entries once said spots are full.
