So I did a little research. It
looked like the NEX screens were easy enough to replace, simply peel
off the screen and replace with a glass protector. I couldn't find as
much info about the A7 but figured since the glass was only $9.50 and
even if I ruined the rear LCD it was only ~$30 to replace. It's easiest
to peel the Trublack cover off if the camera is warm, so I set mine in
the sun for half an hour and then peeled off the Trublack. It took
about ten minutes of slow pulling, being sure to brace the LCD so I
wouldn't break the bracket. Just hook a fingernail under the edge of it
and start lifting, slow and steady does the job. Most of the adhesive
is on the edges, so work your way around the edges prying up and
eventually peel the whole thing off.
Sorry it's out of focus. Unlike
what I'd read, the Trueblack did not come off super clean. There was a
lot of glue leftover, especially on the upper left.
I pulled out my favorite gunk remover; laquor thinner, and used a
microfiber cloth and soon enough the LCD was plenty clean. Still some
slight residue, but nothing on the viewing area.
For $9.50 it's kind of surprising to see that GGS Optical Glass uses genuine 3M adhesive.
Not as good in direct sunlight, yet the Sony Trublack was near useless in direct sunlight too.
How well with the GGS glass cover hold up? Only time will tell, but so far it's been fantastic to have the rear LCD back.
